Our Meeting 6th December 2006 Christmas MeetingHoly Trinity Social Club |
|
The event started with a buffet which had been splendidly organised by Megan, Kath, Alma and Barbara - with, of course, David Fitzgerald-Plummer also dashing about doing useful things like washing up, in which he was joined, it ought to be recorded, by our Vice-President, John Elwell. | Barbara Presland, our Treasurer, manages a small bite - it certainly wasn't her fault that we ran out of food and further supplies had to be hastily obtained.
After the buffet this poor old boy seems to have wandered in from somewhere and was seen at the bar trying to change a bit of coloured paper for a quick fix of alcohol ... | ... and then he shambled onto the stage and gave a reading from Charles Dickens about his visit to Wolverhampton and Bilston in1853 - Dickens' visit that is, not the old boy's.
In this photo members are wondering what on earth the old boy was up to but showing a commendable tolerance of the afflicted. | After a short interval for the members to recover their senses, various people could not be prevented from climbing on the stage too. Members were thus regaled with songs from Three Little Sisters (who looked pretty much like Megan, Kath and Alma).
And then Megan and David gave a performance, but which your reporter cannot report upon as he had the misfortune to miss it, as he was outside having a quick drag at the time. | Then Megan had arranged a game of "Box 13" which was compered by our President, Trevor Genge, asking what he said were simple questions (never trust a retired headmaster on that one).
Several members won prizes, or not, as skill and luck befell. Olive Topliss was one of the winners. Here she is nippily avoiding a pink haired but devoted sister. | It was sometime about then that Father Christmas on a reindeer, along with two little helpers, appeared. Your reporter also missed this remarkable performance as he was in the kitchen doing the washing up with John Elwell (what I mean is that he was doing the washing up with soapy water and a sponge; and John Elwell was also doing the washing up. Do try not to be pedantic about these things). |
