Our meeting was held in the excellent hall of the Wesleyan Church in Bow
Street, Bilston, which is very near the centre of town. This was
our first meeting on a Saturday, which we hoped members would find
convenient as they could combine our meeting with a shopping trip.
This seems to have worked quite well as there was a steady stream of
members and visitors throughout the day.
Our guest of honour was His Worship the Mayor of the City
of Wolverhampton, Councillor John Rowley. |
|
Here is the Mayor with our Vice-Chairman, Jim
Speakman. (Our Chairman, Alan Bickley, had a sickie and we
all wish him well). Henry Metzger records the scene.
(Actually the scene shows the Mayor leaving, not arriving, but
your reporter missed that bit and reckons that both scenes were
probably pretty similar anyway - you just have to imagine everyone
facing the other way). |

|
In this report we can follow the course followed by the
Mayor round the hall. Against the back wall Reg Aston (in the pink
shirt and watch chain) had an amazing display which seems to have included
photos of every sporting team which ever ventured on to a pitch in
Bilston. |
| At the back left, our usual stalwarts on the door,
Barbara Presland (our Treasurer) and Bill Pope, sign members in
and make a collection from guests. They had a very
successful day. At the front centre Alma Darby (our
Secretary) keeps an eye on things. Anyone who made a nice donation got a copy of a souvenir
booklet, written and produced by Reg Aston, about children's games. |
Across the corner Sandra Aston had her delightful
display about Bilston weddings, here being closely inspected by a
member. |
|
Sandra's display seems to have encouraged George
Philpott and John Hughes into making a few points to each other. |
