Memories of our Meeting on 14th May 2003

A Joint Meeting with the Lunt Tenants and Residents Association

It is not known as widely as it should be that the Tenants' Charter originated in Bilston and Bradley.  Forty years on from the first moves to create the Charter it was felt that the achievement should be marked.  The Club and the Association set up a joint committee to organise the event.  The Committee met monthly and a great deal of work went in to the arrangements and a large number of flyers and posters were printed, a charter roll was researched and prepared and the Mayor was invited.  Here is what happened on the day.

Lunt Community Centre The meeting was held at the Lunt Community Centre and a big banner was made up and fixed to the railings.  (That's June Parkes standing in front of it.  She was just on her way from the meeting.) One of many displays to set up inside the centre, There were many displays to set up inside the centre, including this one by the local authority staff, which told the story of local tenants' involvement in housing and environmental improvements over the last forty years.
Our Club also had a display giving information about the Club and showing some pictures of life in the area in the past. Wolverhampton Photographic Society Gerald Hanrahan and his colleague from the Wolverhampton Photographic Society provided some more artistic shots of the locality as well as other memorabilia. Kath Kiely (who also put on a nice display) and Gerald Hanrahan settle a point. It included recent additions to his collection: school photographs, supplied by BCMC members, Muriel and Joyce Lines and Carol Blewett, showing Stonefield Girls' School and Ettinghsall Primary School.
