Jim and Rose Speakman were in the assembled throng
... |
... as was another venerable councillor, Tom
Larkin (left); and Gerald Hanrahan (right), seen here with the
Bugle's photographer and reporter, John Workman. Tom seems
to have recovered from being described in the House of Commons as
a "redoubtable campaigner". |

|
Then we had a sing-song, of Christmas carols and
popular songs, with hymn sheets provided by Reg. There was a
wonderful accompaniment on the keyboard by Bob Froggat - one of
these people who amazes your tone deaf reporter by apparently being
able to play anything at no notice. |
The singing was lead by John George, who was in fine
voice for the occasion. We are very grateful to Bob and John for
this very much enjoyed part of the proceedings. |
|
|
Everyone joined in - well, nearly everyone. |
Then Henry showed another short film. This one was
particularly interesting as it showed us - at our Autumn in Bilston
meeting - and we could all try to see ourselves on telly. |
|
|
The came the highly important matter of the raffle
draw, conducted by Alan and Alma. Here Dorothy, one of the lucky
winners, chooses a prize. |
That was supposed to end the proceedings and we all
started to clear up. Henry had another on-stage fight with his
equipment. |
|
|
But while Bob was prepared to go on playing, there
were still people who were prepared to go on singing. Here is Bob
with his wife and, on the left, Margaret Bowdler; and, on the right,
Sylvia Horton.
;But in the end we all dispersed, not much more than an hour
after the scheduled closing time.
